DELL - WARNING: The battery cannot be identified

Estos días atrás me ha tocado hacer de pringao, y he estado dándome leches con un portátil Dell Inspiron 1501 con el supermegacojonudo Windows (hasta la) Vista.

La cosa es que después de instalar el SO y pegarse así como 2 días actualizándose me he decidido a intentar resolver un problemilla que tenía al arrancar el equipo. Justo después de salir la pantalla de la BIOS, aparecía el siguiente mensaje:

WARNING: The battery cannot be identified.

The system will be unable to charge this battery.

Press Any Key to Continue

Press <F2> 2 times to enter SETUP

Press <F12> and Any Key to enter Boot Menu

Sin embargo y a pesar del mensaje, la batería se carga perfectamente así que me dirijo a la página del fabricante para ver las posibles actualizaciones del equipo. Se puede acceder rápidamente a la zona de descargas del modelo exacto de equipo introduciendo el service tag. El equipo viene con la BIOS 2.3.0 mientras que la última disponible es la 2.6.3. En el apartado Fixes and Enhancements se puede leer:

1. Fixed erroneous Bad Battery message during post.

Como diría un amigo, blanco y en botella puede ser batida de coco, pero yo diría que es leche. Así que descargo el fichero Win1501263.EXE. Una vez que lo tengo en el equipo, doble click y se desempaqueta el siguiente contenido:

BIOS.BAK

FLASHABL.ROM

MFC42.DLL

MSVCP60.DLL

MSVCRT.DLL

PHLASH.INI

PHLASHLC.DLL

PHLASH.LOG

PHLASHNT.SYS

Win1501263.EXE

WINPHLASH.EXE

Lanzo el ejecutable WINPHLASH.EXE, y se inicia la actualización de la BIOS. Al terminar, reinicio el equipo, aparece el mensaje de BIOS con la nueva versión y se acabó el warning.

This days I have been helping a friend of mine to reinstall Windows Vista into his Dell Inspiron 1501 laptop.
Everything was ok but at boot time, after the BIOS message appeared this warning:

WARNING: The battery cannot be identified.

The system will be unable to charge this battery.

But the battery test said that it was charged perfectly so I went to the DELL site using the laptop service tag and I found a BIOS update. The laptop has the 2.3.0 and the lastest release is the 2.6.3 with the following Fixes and Enhancements:

1. Fixed erroneous Bad Battery message during post.

So to apply the update we just have to download the Win1501263.EXE file, to unpack its content listed above, to execute the WINPHLASH.EXE file to install it.

After the update proccess and restart the system we can verify that the new BIOS version is installed and the warning is gone.
